Jonas Blixt makes the cut narrowly at McGladrey Classic
Jonas Blixt was on top of the world last week after the rookie had won his maiden title on the PGA tour at the Frys.com Open.
A great deal was expected from him at the McGladrey Classic as well, but so far the Swede has not delivered. Instead, he just made the cut narrowly.
The world number 75 started poorly on Thursday. He opened up with a two-over 72. He was in danger of missing the cut but a respectable three-under 67 saved the day for him.
Blixt, overall, had a wonderful season. He sits pretty in the money tour list, he is a tour winner now as well. However, what matters is his consistency.
Winning a title and then fading in the next tournament will not do much good to Jonas if he wants to be a successful golfer.
On Thursday, things started on nicely for the Swede, as he birdied the first hole. A bogey on the third made things even and after a stretch of pars, he double bogeyed at the 13th hole.
The bogey was followed by a birdie and another bogey on the 16th and 17th hole respectively.
However, on Friday, the real Jonas Blixt turned up. He shot a flawless round of three-under 67. The Swede shot only three birdies but shooting flawless rounds always gives a good feeling.
Currently, he is nine shots adrift of the leader, Arjun Atwal. Chances of a victory at the Seaside Course look bleak for him, until and unless things turn dramatically over the weekend.
However, there is one motivation that will drive Jonas over the weekend and that is to finish well, to get a place in the Augusta Masters.
Nevertheless, Blixt needs to finish inside the top-30 by the end of the season if he wants to play at the Augusta Masters. A good finish at the Seaside Course would certainly guarantee Jonas a place inside the top-30 on the money tour list.
"I just assumed that every winner got into Augusta," said Blixt, who became only the third rookie to win on the tour, in 2012. "I was a little devastated when my caddie told me I wasn't in".
