Jonas Blixt records a close finish at the Nordea Masters – Golf news
Jonas Blixt, who usually piles his trade on the PGA Tour, carded a four-under par 68 in the final round of the European Tour’s Nordea Masters to finish second on the leaderboard, on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
The Swede star started his final round campaign with a shared third place in hand and four strokes off the pace set by the overnight leader and the eventual winner Mikko Ilonen.
Blixt got off to a confident start, as he birdied the fourth hole, followed by a birdie-eagle streak on the eighth and the ninth hole, to reach the turn in four-under.
Entering the 11th hole, he was just two-strokes behind Ilonen and certainly had a great chance to offer his rival a good competition for the top spot. Conversely, he lost control over his game and bogeyed the 11th and the 14th
hole, added with a double bogey seven on 13th.
Thereafter, he tried to make a comeback with back-to-back three birdies, starting from the 15th hole. However, Ilonen went way ahead of him and Blixt had to settle for the second-place finish in the end.
Despite missing out the chance of securing his maiden European Tour title, Blixt was happy with his overall performance in the tournament. According to him, he put his best in his game and contended strongly in the tournament,
which is something he felt proud of.
“I’m pretty happy about the way I played this week,” said Blixt, whose only professional career victory came at the Frys.com Open last year. “I didn’t win but I made a good run at it so that’s what I’m happy about.
“It’s been fantastic and I’m never going to forget this. It’s been nothing but amazing this week, it is cool to come home and have people screaming and cheering, and I don’t really get that in the States so much, it’s awesome,” the 29-year-old added.
Bernd Wiesberger, in the meantime fired a six-under par 66, which allowed him to post a weekend total of a 14-under par score. As a result, he managed to third on the leaderboard, his second top-five finish of the season.
