Jonathan Broxton starts new era with Cincinnati Reds – MLB Update
The Cincinnati Reds showed enormous progress in the past Major League Baseball season. They started well and played with sheer confidence.
However, losing early in the post-season made the Reds’ management evaluate their post-season performance. Later franchise’s top executives decided to bring some experienced players in the roster in order to show more consistence performance next season.
Now reports are coming in the media that Reds’ have taken an initiative of signing Jonathan Broxton. He signed a three-year $21 million deal which will also determine their next potential season overall future output.
“Nothing's in stone right now, We told (Chapman) before he left to prepare because that's the hardest part -- starter. When we talked to Jonathan we said he was going to be at the back end of the bullpen. What happens depends on spring training how things play out in the offseason," Reds' assistant general manager Bob Miller said in the media.
Later Broxton said on a conference call and explained with detail, “I went into the offseason with an open mind, I've got experience in both roles. Even if Chapman doesn't work out as a starter, he can come back in and fill in as the closer. I'll be happy to throw the eighth (inning). It doesn't matter to you.”
Broxton last played for the Kansas City Royals and finished with consistent numbers. He played consistently throughout the season and saved total 27 games for the Royals.
Overall his performance also was quite impressive with an ERA of 2.48 along with 27 saves, 45 strike-outs and 1.26 WHIP.
Overall Broxton possesses career 3.10 ERA along with 111 saves, 548 strike-outs and 1.24 WHIP.
Many believe that Broxton has made right choice coming into the Reds' organisation after showing his skills with some of the leading Major League teams.
Broxton started his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and later went onto play with the Kansas City Royals. Now with the Reds, Broxton has new challenges ahead that will also give him new energy to remain on top of his game for next couple of years.
