Jonathan Byrd heads into final round leading by one stroke – Wells Fargo Championship
American golfer, Jonathan Byrd, will head into the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship leading by one stroke. Byrd posted a third round 67 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina to lead by one shot over second round leader, Pat Perez.
Last year, Byrd was in danger of losing his play card after a long year of dismal performances. Looking at how he is playing now it seems like he has made the necessary adjustments to bring himself back into contention. Nevertheless, the third round didn’t
start off very well for the player as he posted a bogey on the first hole. Making two back to back birdies on hole number 7 and 8, the player gained momentum. Bogeying par 4 9th, the player made the turn
on even par. The back nine were better as the player made consecutive birdies from the 13th hole until the 15th
hole. Finishing his third round at five under par 65, the player was happy with his performance.
"Twelve months ago, I would never have thought that could happen," said Byrd. "But now, the way my game is, why couldn't it happen? I'm playing well. I feel like I have all the tools to play well. I'm just going to play, and then when it's all over, I'll
enjoy whatever I've done."
The overnight leader Perez had a total of 18 birdies in the first two days but didn’t give an amazing performance in the third round. The player made four birdies and two bogeys and posted a 70 in the final round. About his performance, Perez said it was
scrappy all the way around.
Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover are one shot behind Perez and Kevin Na, Bill Haas and Andres Romero are four shots off the pace. Complementing Byrd, Glover said that he is a great player and he’s playing really well. Glover was confident about Byrd shooting
a low score in the final round and attaining the win. Receiving positive feedback from his fellow players, Byrd surely has his hopes up. With so many talented players teeing off, the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship will surely be interesting to
follow.
