Jonathan Cantwell wins the final stage of the Tour De Taiwan, Rhys Pollock claimed the overall classifications
Jonathan Cantwell secured his second stage win at the Tour De Taiwan after his marvellous sprinting efforts during the final day of racing in Taiwan.
He finished the 150 kilometre stage 7 of the race in an impressive time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 18 seconds to claim the top spot.
Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli and Muhammad Adiq Othman of Champion System Pro Cycling Team finished at the second and the third positions.
The 30-year-old bagged his first victory at the race during the fourth stage of the race. He out-sprinted Roberto Ferrari and Alexander Serov to open his winning account.
The overall victory belongs to Rhys Pollock of Drapac Cycling Team. He finished the final stage of the race at the 75th position but his performance was god enough to extend the overall lead.
Pollock crashed during the final 800 kilometres of the race but had enough legs to defend his two-second lead over Kam Po Wong and six-seconds over Dirk Muller.
Rhys noted, "I knew the rule of the last 3km but I was scared because anything can happen, Third placed on GC] Dirk Muller could have jumped away and taken some time”.
“I told my teammates who wanted to celebrate: 'hey, just wait until the commissaires give it all clear'. I had to take some risks as if I was a sprinter myself. Now I'm just relieved that I held on to victory", he concluded.
Pollock now becomes the first Australian cyclist to have succeeded at the Tour D Taiwan since its first edition in 1987.
Kam Po Wong finished 2 seconds behind to grab the second overall spot with Dirk Muller further four seconds behind at the third position.
Lee Rodgers, Chun Kai Feng and Chan Jae Jang grabbed the first, the second and the third positions with 31, 28 and 18 points respectively.
Chun Kai Feng, Shinichi Fukushima and Victor Nino Corredor grabbed the first three spots after the final mountains classifications.
Japan National Team, Team Androni Giocattoli and Drapac Cycling Team were the top three teams during the event.
Champion System Pro Cycling Team and Team Saxo Bank grabbed the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
