Jonathan Davies tags Gareth Thomas’ retirement a bridge too far - Rugby League
While talking to media reporters on Wednesday, October 26, Jonathan Davies, said that he believes that Gareth Thomas withdrew from playing in both codes of rugby because he felt that it was “a bridge too far”.
Thomas was supposed to play against the English side in Leigh on Saturday. However, his untimely announcement on Tuesday, October 24, about hanging up his boots has taken everyone by surprise and his spot in the squad is no more.
While referring to the player’s recent bolt from the blue, the dual- code international, Davies said, "The timing would have surprised the Wales team management because they would have liked the decision a little bit earlier. Looking at the calibre of opposition
Wales are about to play against, maybe he thought it was a bridge too far and that's why he made the call. But when you do retire it's a very, very tough decision to make because it's been your life for 10 or 20 years.”
Wales will clash against England in the inaugural match of the Four Nations then they will meet Australia, which will be followed up by the next encounter against New Zealand.
Fast approaching Four nations is building up pressure on Wales, who is currently table toppers, against all expectations. However, Wales coach is all insistent of living up to the expectations which are on the rise as he believes that his side is bent on
giving their ultimate best in order to prove their form , which is far superior than the others in contention.
Thomas is well known in the world of rugby, for his distinguished achievements in either code of rugby. He is marching out of his on field role, with proven skilled. He is known for his out of ordinary playing skills which makes it all the more frustrating
for the Welsh side to absorb just ahead of the Four Nations Campaign.
With 100 rugby union caps, along with the honour of leading Welsh side to their first Grand Slam in 27 years, to his credit, the Welsh prop has been rumoured rumoured of extending his rugby career by signing up with Wigans in future.
