Jonathan Fox claims Men’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jonathan Fox of Great Britain claimed gold medal of Men’s 100m backstroke in S7 category on primary day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
Fox shattered hopes of his fans, who were eyeing the title of the discipline, as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal. He faced no trouble from any of his opponents throughout the race and tapped the wall for the title.
The British swimmer remained one body length ahead of his closest challenger as he hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 10.46 seconds.
Fox was traced by Yevheniy Bohodayko of Ukraine, who remained 0.85 seconds slower from overpowering the gold medallist and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 11.31 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed by Mihovil Spanja of Croatia, who stayed 1.22 seconds slower from improving his position and transpired on the podium for bronze medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 12.53 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Ievgen Poltavskyi of Ukraine, who remained one and a half body length behind and failed to reach the podium as he completed his race in 1 minute and 14.03 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer enjoyed an advantage of Guillermo Marro of Argentina, who stayed 0.16 seconds behind and secured fifth position of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 14.19 seconds.
Subsequently, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Andrey Gladkov of Russia, who stayed only 0.07 seconds slower and concluded his race in sixth best place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 14.26 seconds.
The Dutch swimmer was chased by Nan Gao of China, who remained half body length behind and finished seventh in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 14.71 seconds.
Marian Kvasnytsia of Ukraine was disqualified from the race due to a wrong start and was unable to take part in the race.
Furthermore, Fox expressed happy over his title claiming effort in the event.
