Jonathan Hivert wins the stage 2 of the Tour De Romandie 2012
Jonathan Hivert of Team Saur-Sojasun opened his 2012 winning account at the Tour De Romandie.
The French rode brilliantly during the stage 2 of the race and restricted his opponents.
Hivert took a total time of 3 hours 48 minutes and 11 seconds to cross the finish line and overcame the race favourites.
The cyclist was over the moon after registering his first win of the 2012 season and thanked his team-mates for their non-stop support throughout the contest.
He cited, "I just saw the line coming up and I thought I’d give it more, and that was the main thing in my mind at the time".
Jonathan further added that, "I didn’t have any idea what the finish was like. I knew it was uphill but that was it".
Ryder Hesejdal of Team Garmin-Barracuda was leading the race until the final 200 metres but Hivert timed his attack perfectly during the 149.1 kilometre chase to Moutier.
Rui Costa of Team Movistar finished second with Luis Leon Sanchez of Team Rabobank occupying the third spot.
Gianni Meersman of Team Lotto Belisol, Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Giacomo Nizzolo of Team RadioShack-Nissan finished at the fourth, the fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling achieved the 42nd position and continued his overall dominance at the race.
The British cyclist is now dominating the stage 2 classifications with a total lead of 7 seconds over Michael Rogers while Bauke Mollema of Team Rabobank is at the third spot.
Stef Clement of Team Rabobank, Andrew Talansky of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Luis Leon Sanchez of Team Rabobank are occupying the next three positions after the stage 2 classifications.
Wiggins secured the stage 1 of the race and is eyeing the top podium spot after the final general classifications.
He briefed after the Stage 1 victory, "I want to win Romandie, that’s for sure. I’ll take what I can every day and it’s really nice to win a sprint like this because normally I only ever really win time trials".
Bradley will now keep a close eye on Rogers, Mollema and Clement to ensure his overall success at the 2012 version of the Tour De Romandie.
