Jonathan Lobert of France leads Finn class on Day 2 of Kieler Woche 2011: ISAF Sailing World Cup
Frenchman, Jonathan Lobert grabbed the overall lead in the Finn class regatta at the end of second day of Kieler Woche 2011, on Sunday, June 19 at Kiel, Germany.
The French sailor, Lobert, sailed tremendously in the extreme weather conditions to take the lead in the final event of International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Sailing World Cup.
At the start of the day, breeze was blowing from 10 to 15 knots with small gusts. All that changed with the arrival of heavy rain, and breeze that went up to 19 knots. Lobert though, was able to hold
his own in these testing conditions and finished on top with 14 points.
United States’ Zach Railey had a tough day in the sea but managed to grab second place, two points behind the leader. The third day will be a stunning encounter between both sailors under extreme
conditions.
While talking to reporters after the end of the day, Railey said, “It's been pretty windy so far but the wind has been very shifty so it's not only been physically very hard but mentally you have
to stay up on what the wind is doing. The top boats are very close and the races are coming down to the last moments each time.”
He spoke about his plans after 2011 Kieler Woche, “My main focus after Kiel will be working on my fitness and gaining some much needed weight. Then we will head over to Weymouth for training before
the test event.”
