Jonathan Lucroy shines as Milwaukee Brewers defeat San Diego Padres 8-6 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ catcher Jonathan Lucroy was outstanding with his bat as he hit triple RBIs and went 3-for-4 in the Brewers’ 8-6 win over the San Diego Padres at Miller Park in Milwaukee on May 10.
The Brewers’ Manager Ron Roenicke was not completely satisfied with the victory. Speaking to reporters, he said, “To tell you the truth, I'm not very happy about this game. We were winning 8-0, and [end up] with our set-up guy in there that we didn't want
to get in again, then we had to use our closer again. I'm not very happy about it. I'm really happy about the offense.”
The Pitchers threw pretty well in the first inning as the scorecard remained empty for both sides. The Brewers started their runs in the second inning and took a 3-0 lead. For the Brewers, almost every batter did his job as Lucroy hit two RBIs and Corey
Hart struck one, as the three singles were added in this inning.
Roenicke said of Hart, “Corey, his thoughts were right. He rounded the bag and wanted to see if the throw was high. If the throw was high, he was going to continue on to third base. He got off farther than he thought he was.”
The third inning also went in favour of the Brewers as they extended their lead 6-0 by scoring three runs. Casey McGehee hit two-run single towards the centre-field position on a contribution with Ryan Braun, who singled in the same inning. It was the first
RBI hit for Braun in the current season and he went 1-for-3.
The Padres were unable to score runs until the fifth inning. While the Brewers further raised their lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning when Yuniesky Betancourt made a single on the third RBI hit of Lucroy. Carlos Gomez also shined with the bat as he went 1-for-4
and added one run for his team. The Padres then broke their silence and posted their first run in the sixth inning when Will Venable hit an RBI single and Chase Headley completed a run to move the scoreboard to 8-1.
The Padres cut-off their deficits to 8-5 in the seventh inning by the two-run drive of Kyle Phillips and a single run of Alberto Gonzalez. Brad Hawpe and Chase Headley also contributed one-run each during the seventh inning. The eighth inning remained scoreless
while the Padres took another run in the ninth inning to end the game 8-6.
