Jonathan Lucroy shines as Milwaukee Brewers edge past Washington Nationals, 7-6 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ catcher, Jonathan Lucroy was impressive with his bat as he went 2-for-4 and hit three RBIs including one-run homer in the Brewers’ 7-6 win against the Washington Nationals at Miller Park, Milwaukee on May 24.
After this convincing win, Lucroy expressed his feelings and said, “I'm never going to be a Ryan Braun or anybody like that, but I feel like I compete a lot better in the box than I did last year. I'm really trying to do that this year.”
The Brewers were on top from the start of the game as they scored two runs during first inning. Corey Hart homered (378 feet) towards left-field and Rickie Weeks scored one run. On the other side, the Nationals reduced the lead 2-1 in the second inning when
Livan Hernandez singled off to left-field and Michael Morse posted a run. Danny Espinosa occupied second base at the end of second inning.
The Nationals’ batters stepped on the gas during the third inning and posted four runs. Morse hit a home run (381 feet) to left-field while Ian Desmond, Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos each added one run in the four-run campaign. The Nationals got a 5-2 lead
after third inning.
Both sides contributed one run in the fourth inning to move the score-board 6-3. Desmond doubled to deep centre and Roger Bernadina scored a single run. Lucroy struck a homer (384 feet) to left-field. No score was added in the fifth and sixth inning as the
batters failed to score a single run.
The Brewers’ Manager Ron Roenicke was amused with the way Lucroy batted right through the game. Speaking to reporters, Roenicke said, “I don't see many second-year guys doing what he's doing. I think he's relaxed and confident offensively, and I think that's
why he's doing so well.”
The Brewers’ batters raised the momentum of their team by scoring crucial runs at the end of game. In the seventh inning, Weeks hit a homer (408 feet) towards left-field and Craig Counsell put the second run of the inning to cut-off his team’s deficit 6-5.
Casey McGehee and Brandon Boggs both added two runs in the ninth inning to push the Brewers to 7-6.
Boggs said of Lucroy, “I saw he dropped it a couple of steps before I got to him. I kind of eased up a little bit. I didn't lower the shoulder, so we're good.”
Chris Narveson was too expensive as he threw just three innings with an ERA of 4.20 and permitted six runs on eight hits with six earned runs. He struck out three batters and gave away two walks on 82 pitches. The relievers pitched superbly for the Brewers
as they went score-less on their combined five inning pitches.
