Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen to play with different partners in 2013 – Tennis News
Jonathan Marray who teamed up with Frederik Nielsen and surprised everyone by winning the doubles Wimbledon Championships trophy at the All England Lawn Tennis Club has issued amusing news on the eve of Wednesday.
He believes that there is meagre chance of the British/Dane duo to team up for the new season that starts in January 2013.
While addressing to the local reporters, Marray stated, “We both like playing on grass. After this year, it would be silly not to, almost. It depends how things go, you never know. Hopefully, I'd like to have done well with Andre and still be playing with
the same person, week in, week out, but you never know.”
He further added, “If things don't work out, I'm sure Freddie will definitely be playing that one (Wimbledon) - he won't be playing a different singles tournament that week, so, I think there is a possibility. We'll just have to see how it goes.”
Both athletes stunned the Spanish team of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in the opening round of Wimbledon before trouncing the partnership of Ivo Karlovic and Frank Moser. In the third round, they stunned the Pakistani/Dutch duo of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi
and Jean-Julien Rojer. They continued the sublime run and powered down the team of James Cerretani and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
No one expected them to extend their winning streak further because they were drawn with the American number one team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. However, they constructed a path to overcome the tough twin brothers and marched on to beat the team of Robert
Lindstedt and Horia Tecau in the final of the tournament. This accomplishment helped them to register their team in the Barclays Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Finals where they ended as the semi-finalists.
After such a remarkable year, it will be a very bold decision by the 31-year-old Briton and the 29-year-old Dane to split up and play with different partners. However, the personal clash of ideologies can always override the statistics.
Marray has already announced that he will team up with Dustin Brown at the Qatar Open before joining hands with Andre Sa in the year’s first Grand Slam Championship, the Australian Open, at Melbourne.
