Jonathan Marray hopes to do well with his new partner Andre Sa in 2013 – Tennis News
British number one in men’s doubles, Jonathan Marray, thinks that the playing style of his new doubles partner, Brazil’s Andre Sa, will complement him and hopes that they would be able to perform well together in the next season.
Marray had to find a new partner for 2013 after his previous companion, Frederik Nielsen of Denmark, decided to concentrate on playing singles in the next season. The British star has never played with Sa before but believes that the Brazilian is a good
person and this fact would help their partnership.
Talking to reporters in a recent interview, Marray stated, “We haven't played together before so we'll see how that goes, but we're looking to do well. I was mainly playing Challengers but over the last year and a half I've got to know him. He's a good lad
and easy to get along with and the way he plays will complement the way I can. Hopefully we'll get some good results together.”
Murray did not have a good ranking and mostly used to play challengers until the first half of this year. He and Nielsen were awarded wild card entry by the Lawn Tennis Association to take part in Wimbledon, which was their first tour level event together.
The British-Danish duo made full use of that opportunity and upset many high profile doubles teams to capture title at the All England Club. They also qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, where they advanced to the semi-finals.
However, season ending championships was their last event together, as Nielsen will go back to playing challenger events in 2013.
Commenting on the ending of their partnership, Marray added, “It was known - we never agreed to have a long-term partnership. I understand the decision. He's never promised something and not delivered. It's his career. I'm sure I'll play with him again at
some stage.”
Marray’s new partner, Sa, is a seasoned doubles player. The 35-year-old veteran reached final of four tour level events with his Slovakian player, Michal Mertinak, in 2012. Sa used to play with his compatriot, Marcelo Melo, before that.
