Jonathan Monsalve joins Team Farnese-Vini-Selle Italia for two seasons
The UCI Professional Continental side, Team Farnese Vini-Selle Italia, continuous expanding its roster for the season ahead.
The latest addition in the team is the inclusion of Jonathan Monsalve who has pledged his two seasons to the team.
Team Manager, Luca Scinto was delighted to have the young cyclist on the side and noted that his addition will definitely reinforce the team’s strength.
Luca sees Monsalve as a potential climber and is willing to give him ample time of two- years to polish his talent.
He is expected to send him at the Giro d’Italia 2013, provided the team received an invitation through the wild-card entry.
"Jonathan is a young rider with great potential, ready to grow into a good team that is going to pay attention to their performance,” Scinto said on Biciciclismo.
"He is a very strong climber and good rider on medium mountain stages”.
“To do this we decided to sign a two-year contract with him, so he can take the time to grow”.
“I am sure that with him in the Giro d'Italia, if we receive the invitation, we could do something special in the mountain stages," said Scinto.
The 23-year old rode for the Amateur sides, Team Hussein Sport Gobierno Barinas (2008-09) and Team G.S. Mastromarco through 2010 before becoming professional.
He started riding professionally with Team Androni Giocattoli in 2011 and helped the team with a first overall victory at the Tour de Langkawi including the mountain classifications and a stage 5 win at the race.
Monsalve completed the 10-day race in a total time of 30 hours, 8 minutes and 57 seconds and restricted the race favourites.
Libardo Nino of Team LeTua Cycling finished 5 seconds behind at the second position with Jonathan’s teammate Emanuele Sella claiming the third spot.
Francesco Chicchi is also accepted to join the team after completing his current contract with Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step by the end of 2012 season.
Team Farnese Vini-Selle Italia is also expected to change its name to Vini Fantini-Selle Italia right through the start of new season.
