Jonathan Moore finishes second at the Venetian Macau Open
Jonathan Moore birdied each of the last five holes in the final round of the Venetian Macau Open, to finish second on the leaderboard, on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Moore, who made it to the Asian Tour by finishing at the top of the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit last year, started off his final round campaign with the sixth-position in the field.
He got off to a brilliant start with a par putt on the first hole and followed that with a birdie on the second. He then added another two shots on the sixth and seventh hole to reach the turn with a three-under par score.
His start on the back nine of the course was not that impressive. After recording pars on the 10th and the 11th hole, he conceded two back-to-back bogeys on the 12th and the 13th hole.
Yet, the two blemishes on his scorecard did not shatter his confidence. He bounced back in a great style by carding birdies on each of the remaining holes of the day.
At the end of the day, he settled for a 14-under par tournament score and challenged Gaganjeet Bhullar on top of the leaderboard.
However, Bhullar was at his best and held his nerves till the end of the round to record his second Asian Tour victory of the season.
Even though, Moore failed to register a victory despite making a strong charge on the leaderboard, he was happy with his overall performance in the tournament.
He earned a total of US$81,375 prize money, which also secured him a place in the 2013 Asian Tour season.
“To put two sixes on the card and then five birdies, I’m really thankful. At times, I’ve been trying to do too much and make it happen instead of trusting it. I’m so thankful. It’s amazing. It helps a lot for next year,” the 27-year-old said.
He added, “I was talking about Gaganjeet earlier this week and about the great players coming out of India. He’s really good … he’s had an amazing year. I have a lot of respect for him”.
“Last year wasn’t one of his best years but look at what he’s done now. That shows about the character that he has,” he concluded.
