Jonathan Moore fires 61 to finish second at the Iskandar Johor Open
Jonathan Moore of the United States fired an 11-under par 61, in the final round of the Iskandar Johor Open, to claim his second runner-up finish of the season.
The tournament was being staged at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, and was shortened to 54 holes, due to too many suspended sessions during the week.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, the inclement weather created troubles for the organizers to stage the event on continuous basis.
A number of suspensions forced the officials to decide the winner at the end of the third round on Sunday.
Moore started his final-round campaign at the shared 26th place on the leaderboard. He then made a strong charge on the leaderboard, after carding birdies on five of the first eight holes that he played.
Thereafter, he received a huge round of applause from the spectators, after he turned in the ball for an eagle on the ninth hole.
The back nine of the course also witnessed him maintain consistency in his game. He parred each of the first two holes, prior to recording birdies on the 12th and the 13th hole.
The American added another two shots to his scorecard, by carding birdies on the 15th and the 16th hole.
At the end of the day, he found his name making a surge of 24 places on the leaderboard – he moved from 26th position to the second spot.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that it was the best performance of his career.
“It was a really special day. I had a clear focus today and felt good on the greens. It was probably the best I have ever done because I didn’t have any fear over any shots,” said Moore.
“It has been a good season. I’m just so thankful. It is hard to put it into words but it is such a huge blossom. This is my best score. I’ve shot two 62s before and won! But this time, there’s a guy named Sergio Garcia who also shot a 61. It was a lot of fun to do that today,” added the American.
