Jonathan Neale: McLaren’s performance in Valencia was not 100 percent – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale has stated that the British team’s performance in the European Grand Prix was not up to the mark as the car was not one hundred percent prepared.
Neale added that the McLaren team has sorted out the performance of its car and will step into the Silverstone Grand Prix with its full potential.
Neale further notified that Valencia and Canada are two completely different circuits as compared to Silverstone and McLaren’s chances cannot be gauged from the previous performances in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
McLaren’s performance in the European Grand Prix was below par than their previous statistics in the 2011 season which provoked the media to suggest that McLaren have taken a step back in development grounds.
Neale stated, “We underperformed at Valencia, we didn't really get the car dialled in properly. I don't think we delivered to our full potential there, and therefore I'm certainly regarding it as a blip. We understand the reasons why, and we've done something
about it.”
He stated that the hiccups faced in Valencia will be helpful in developing the car when another street circuit or semi-street circuit comes up.
Further talking about McLaren’s chances in the Silverstone Grand Prix, Neale stated, “Canada and Valencia have broadly similar aerodynamic characteristics, but coming into Silverstone there'd be no reason for anybody to make a read on our performance on
those circuits relative to Silverstone. I'm not in any way disheartened.”
He further added that McLaren will have a different scenario in Silverstone for which their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be prepared.
McLaren are still in second on the constructors’ table but the gap from the front running Red Bull is now 89 points. Keeping the spirits up for McLaren team on the drivers’ table is Button who is placed second with a 77-point deficit.
The Silverstone Grand Prix weekend will unfold from Friday, July 8, 2011 and it will be interesting to see where McLaren stand.
