Jonathan Neale confident McLaren will be back on top – Formula 1 news
Jonathan Neale is confident that McLaren’s time will come soon and the team will be winning races once again like in the past.
According to the team’s managing director, “McLaren have been around for 50 years, we've got 182 race wins. We will be back, we will be winning. There's nothing to be complacent about but there's nothing to panic about. We made some mistakes, we've got to get over it, we've got to move on.”
McLaren experimented with the design of their car this year in order to gain a competitive advantage over their rivals, but that backfired and the team has been struggling to deliver solid results since the start of the 2013 Formula 1 season. Both their drivers Jenson Button and Sergio Perez have tried everything they could, but have not looked good for podium finishes.
As a result, the team is fighting in the midfield against Force India for the fifth position in the Constructors’ Championship.
Looking at the current situation, Neale said, “Formula One is one of those sports where you are punished if you are off the pace. We've managed to achieve some things in terms of reliability, operational consistency and stuff. But the on-track delivery is just not competitive at the moment and that's very painful. We're working very hard to try and do something about that.”
It seems extremely difficult for the Woking based outfit to score any victories this season and they will have to shift their focus on 2014. They are currently trying their best to update the car in order to give a tough time to Force India, who have been better in terms of consistency.
However, things were different during the German GP, where both Button and Perez had the speed to fight for points and ended up getting them comfortably. They will be hoping that the performance at the Nurburgring was not a one-off and things would be better for them in the upcoming races too.
Button has got some fond memories of the Hungarian track, where he has scored a couple of memorable victories with different teams. He will be looking to finish on the podium to make the weekend special once again.
