Jonathan Neale pleased with McLaren performance in 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director, Jonathan Neale has said that he is very pleased with the team’s performance in the 2012 German Grand Prix.
The Woking based team suffered with the lack of downforce and tyre degradation issue in the last few grands prix. However, they came back tremendously well with some major updates in their cars in the preceding race at Hockenheimring in which their driver,
Jenson Button secured an impressive second podium finish.
“In terms of the upgrade package, we are very pleased - we'd like another one,” he said.
Nevertheless, he said that they are not taking things easy as they are well aware of the tight competition amongst all the competitors in the current season. Moreover, he said that they need to pursue their development process throughout the season ahead.
“We are under no illusions about how hard we have to work. But also, there are still points still to come in this championship and we can get our drivers up there,” he asserted.
Even though, he said that they struggled during the qualifying of the previous race due to wet weather conditions. Nevertheless, he said that he is very happy to see Button back in action and the progress which they made in the season so far.
“Our qualifying in the wet (in Germany) was disappointing but in the race the drivers were able to contest. I was delighted for Jenson that he was able to claim second place and for the team as the car made a step forward. It's still a long season,” he added.
At present, the British team is standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 160 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Lotus and are behind Ferrari. Besides, they are 70 points behind the current leaders, Red Bull Racing.
