Jonathan Neale says Sergio Perez has impressed everyone at McLaren – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director, Jonathan Neale has said that they are very much impressed by their new driver Sergio Perez after the first two races of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Perez performed convincingly well during the first half of 2012 and managed to score competitive points for Sauber. He successfully managed to secure a multi-year deal with the Woking based squad and joined them in this season as the replacement of Lewis
Hamilton who moved to Mercedes.
Although, the Mexican driver has only been able to score 2 points with his 9th place finish in the Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit where he scored an incredible second podium finish during the preceding season. Nevertheless,
Neale has said that they are very happy with the performance of the talented youngster.
“I think he's been really good so far,” Neale told a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in. “He's had a lot to learn in terms of getting used to us as a team, the way that we go about things.”
Furthermore, he said that even though Perez is new in the team, but he is working very well with everyone. He also expressed that the 23-year-old has impressed every person in their team with his tremendous driving skills and the way of communication.
In addition, he said that Checo is quite inquisitive and has been very much adaptable with all the operations of the team.
“Obviously he's with a new team of engineers but he's been a real pleasure to work with and everybody in the team has been impressed not only with his driving skills but just the way that he interacts with us. He's fairly inquisitive and so far he's been
very adaptable as well,” he added.
Besides, he said that they have not been able to achieve competitive results in the first two rounds of the season. Nonetheless, he asserted that they are not feeling upset over their results in the first two grands prix and are positively looking forward
to make some essential developments in their car so as to improve its pace for the third race in China.
