Jonathan Neale thinks McLaren’s performance in next three races will be crucial – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director, Jonathan Neale has said that their performance in the next three races will determine their outlook and focus for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Woking based squad took a very disappointing start to this season and both their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, have not been able to attain competitive results with consistency until now because of some immense reliability issues. They are
currently standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind Force India.
Despite their poor results in the season until now, they are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the season ahead with some essential developments in their car so as to compete well with their rivals.
Neale has said that their results in the next three races are crucial and will determine how much focus they will retain in this season. Nevertheless, he said that they have planned to introduce some more updates in later in this season.
“To some extent I think you're right [the next three races are crucial], however there are some programs on the car that we will want to run through much later in to season which is important as fundamental for next year as well,” Neale said.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to improve their pace, but insisted that the gap is quite massive to the contenders in the front.
“Broadly you're right; I think that we recognise that at the moment there isn't going to be a golden bullet. We are pushing hard but reality of situation is that there's still big gap from us to the front of grid,” he said.
It is to be noted that there are going to be some radical changes in the technical rules in 2014 and almost all the contenders are paying great attention on their development process for the next year.
Although, Neale has said that their car development programme for the coming year is still in progress. However, he asserted that they are learning a lot from their mistakes in this season which will surely help them in building a competent car for the next
year.
