Jonathan Quick blocks 33 as Los Angeles Kings shutout San Jose Sharks 2-0 -NHL Update
Jonathan Quick blocked all 33 shots on his net to allow the Los Angeles Kings to snap their two game losing streak and shutout the San Jose Sharks, 2-0, Monday night, November 28, 2011, at the sold out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, United States.
San Jose on the other hand came out with a shutout against the Chicago Blackhawks last Wednesday, but it closely followed with a loss against the Vancouver Canucks and now a second straight to their state rivals, the Los Angeles Kings.
"We had something to prove," LA’s Ethan Moreau said. "I know it's early in the season. But we're not happy where we are in the standings. We're not happy with the losses that we had … we just wanted to prove to ourselves that we belong as an elite team,
and we have to start proving that in the standings. Tonight was a good start."
Los Angeles was down in the 10th number spot when they entered the match with San Jose, but left at the sixth number place in the Western Conference, tied with the St. Louis Blues. They can easily move up into the top three if they continue winning
their upcoming games, something the Kings are surely looking forward to.
Ethan Moreau scored his first of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season nearly midway through the opening period on a breakaway opportunity unassisted.
He was followed by former Philadelphia Flyers superstar player, Mike Richards, who got his 11th at the 4:16 mark in the second to finalise the scoring in the contest.
Both teams failed to pot a single goal during the last 20 minute round, which was obviously in favour of the win-thirsty Kings.
"We're trying to build something here this year and that's all we're focused on," said Quick, who has now played 200 career games and boasts a shutout record of 18.
The Los Angeles Kings have two more at home before taking off for one road game. Their next opponent are the Florida Panthers, while San Jose will also be returning home for four straight, starting off with the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
