Jonathan Quick shines as Los Angeles Kings shutout Phoenix Coyotes 2-0 -NHL Match Update
Jonathan Quick boosted the Los Angeles line-up by earning his second straight shutout of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as the Kings blanked Phoenix Coyotes, 2-0, on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale,
Arizona, United States.
Quick continued with the momentum gained in their previous matchup against St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, shutting them out 5-0, and now even though LA was outshout by Phoenix, 28-22, the 25-year-old did not let it faze him.
No matter how good Jonathan Quick might be performing for Los Angeles at the moment, he continues to strive and getter better each day.
"It's a good start, but we can't be satisfied with what we've done", said Quick. "We've been good defensively the last couple of years and you come to expect it because out guys work so hard. It makes my job a lot easier when they are battling the way they
do in front of me".
A fight broke out in the scoreless first period as Paul Bissonnette of Phoenix exchanged fists with Kevin Westgarth, both were awarded a five-minute major for fighting midway through.
Dustin Brown made the inaugural shot of the game during LA’s first power play which carried over from the first period, 56 seconds into the second with Daymond Langkow out for hooking.
Kyle Clifford added the final goal and put the Kings ahead, 2-0, with less than five minutes remaining in the second for his first of the season, which would be the insuring goal for the team.
Phoenix struggled to get past the Los Angeles defence during the third period which was obviously desperation time for them but managed to still make 10 attempts on Quick, failing on all of them including two added man advantages.
The Kings now return back home to Los Angeles to play against Dallas Stars on Saturday, while Phoenix will go to California in order to face the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
Both teams will meet again later on in the month, which will certainly be exciting to see whether Phoenix can make a comeback or not.
