Jonathan Quick signs 10-year, $58 million contract with Los Angeles Kings -NHL Update
It was just a matter of time and a formality that Jonathan Quick would re-sign with 2012 Stanley Cup winning Los Angeles Kings as the two stakeholders agreed on a huge 10-year deal worth $58 million on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
One of the best goaltenders through the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season along with having an outstanding Conn Smythe Trophy winning performance in the playoffs, Jonathan Quick deserved the boost he got.
The young goalie was entering his last year with the Los Angeles Kings on a three-year contract worth $5.4 million, but will now be making more than that each and every season for the next 10 years with a $5.8 million salary cap hit.
"We are very happy to have a long-term agreement in place with one of our top young players," Kings general manager, Dean Lombardi, said.
Kings have been busy over the offseason by signing as much players as they could and needed while keeping the Stanley Cup winning squad intact.
"It's a younger group," Quick said. "You want to keep everyone here, keep as much of this team intact as you can. Obviously, we know it's part of the game where some guys get moved and it's unfortunate. But we want to keep as much of the team intact.”
"We really love the group. The chemistry we have in the room is awesome," he added.
Quick registered a total of 35 wins during the regular season and recorded a shutout record with 10 in total. He played in all 20 during the playoffs and lost just four in the numerous series that led them to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Picked as the 72nd overall player back in round-three of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Jonathan Quick has proved himself to be of immense value for the Los Angeles Kings. 10 years will keep him secured on the squad till he reaches the age of 36, after
which he will most likely become known as one of the legends of hockey.
During the playoffs, Quick had a .946 save percentage and 1.41 goals-against average.
