Jonathan Quicks inspiration working to keep Los Angeles Kings inspired -NHL Playoffs Update
It is Jonathan Quick’s fifth year in the National Hockey League (NHL) with Los Angeles Kings and being regarded as one of the best goalies is not something he has always had attributed with his name.
Inspiration came to Jonathan Quick a little early and luckily for him, it was by Kings’ general manager, Dean Lombardi, through assistant GM, Ron Hextall.
Quick might have been a little sluggish and reluctant to bring out his true potential, but Los Angeles knew that he would eventually become one of the best, that is if he really tried to do so.
There might have been times when Jonathan Quick would miss practice and barely participate in meeting with the administration, but realising sooner than later has been a major benefit for the young goalie.
"I remember never yelling, just telling him to grow up," Hextall told NHL.com. "I do remember telling him that I don't care if he has to set eight alarm clocks, I never want to make this phone call again."
"It was wake up, literally," Quick told NHL.com. "Everything you do, there is stuff that you can pull out of it. There are still things I can learn from. That's a situation where it was my first year pro.”
Now, as Jonathan Quick continues to lead his team towards greatness with Kings in the Western Conference Finals for the first time in over 19 years, his inspiration to continue working hard with the same level of motivation and dedication has inspired his
teammates as well.
“He’s been unbelievable for us,” Kings’ defenseman, Drew Doughty, said. “In the playoffs, he’s played even better. He’s kept us in those games early.”
Quick had a breakthrough 2011-2012 NHL regular season with a .929 save percentage and an incredible 1.95 goals-against average. Amazingly, the playoffs just got better for the 26-year-old goaltender as he has a .949 save percentage and 1.55 GAA up until
now.
With their next challenge being against the Phoenix Coyotes in the Western Conference Final, Los Angeles Kings players and fans will be looking towards Jonathan Quick for the answer yet again.
