Jonathan Rea says he is feeling better with Honda machine – MotoGP news
Jonathan Rea, currently competing in the Superbike World champion for Castrol Honda will be substituting for the injured Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda.
To familiarise with the Honda machine he took part in the private tests at Aragon without making any changes to the machine.
He said that felt better with the Honda machine because it still feels very strange to him. He added that he had to work a lot on his brake style during the privately held test session.
Additionally, he said that in the Superbikes, he does not use the rear brake very frequently but with the Honda bike, it seems as if he has to use the rear brake in every corner.
Rea said, “Today I was just getting a good feeling between me and the machine because it still feels very strange. I had to work a lot on my brake style today; normally in Superbike I don't use so much rear brake but here it seems that I have to learn to
use it in every corner!”
He said that during the first day of the test, he concentrated on the brakes and tried to do longer runs but he is not used to such a setup. He added that he feels comfortable on the bike the riding position is good but he just need to have a better understanding
of the traction control and the way the tyres react upon drop down. He further said that he wants to be more comfortable with the setup of the bike.
“I feel comfortable on the bike, the riding position is good, but I just need to understand how the traction control is working, what happens when the tyres drop down and be more comfortable with the setup,” the substituting rider said.
He completed his quickest lap at Aragon in 1 minute and 50.679 seconds. His results depict an improvement in his performance as compared to the one during Brno test.
Stoner has undergone his surgery successfully and has been shifted to his home as his stay at hospital was no longer required. The doctors are now waiting to see how his ankle heals.
Stoner was at the third position fighting for the championship. His unfortunate incident has thrown him out of the competition and he feels very frustrated at it.
