Jonathan Rea says he is glad to reduce the gap with front runners at Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Jonathan Rea, replacing injured Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda, improved his performance at the circuit by making it to the 7th position at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The new MotoGP rider told that it was a good learning experience for him.
The replacing rider was able to reduce his gap with the front runners in the Spanish GP. He completed the race with a gap of 32.290 seconds with the winner of the race, Dani Pedrosa. He achieved a top speed of 164.1 km/h.
Rea said, “I'm happy I achieved my goal of reducing the gap to the guys at the front, in the end we managed it by 10 seconds but it was another difficult race as I found myself on my own again.”
Furthermore, he told that he let Alvaro Bautista of San Carlo Honda Gresini gain the lead but when he tried to push hard he was unable to cover it and was only able to reduce the gap very slow. He added that it was a good learning experience for him because
he was experimenting to understand the bike better.
Rea wished health to the injured rider, Stoner, and anticipates that he may come back soon and finishes his last season before retirement, impressively. Besides, he thanked Honda for their support and believes that he will be able to start off with his MotoGP
career soon with the same team.
“I want to thank all of HRC and the Repsol Honda Team for this opportunity and for treating me like one of their own, not like a replacement rider, it's been an amazing experience. This is my tenth year in the Honda family and hopefully I can come back here
someday,” he added.
Casey Stoner had to return to his homeland, Australia, for a surgery with his ankle. It has been told that he is recovering as expected and it is anticipated that he will be able to start the race at home circuit. Stoner has earlier announced that he will
retire from MotoGP after the current 2012 season.
Let’s see how the replacement rider performs until Stoner returns.
