Jonathan Rea substitute for Casey Stoner says he needs to trust the tyre more – MotoGP news
Jonathan Rea Substituting for the injured Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda completed the second day of private test session at Aragon, improving his lap times as compared to the first day of the session.
They worked on the base setting during the second day of the test. Despite completing an intensive test session at Aragon he is still not comfortable with the way he is finishing corners.
Rea said, “Yesterday we did a lot of work with the base setting, and we confirmed that this morning. Still, I’m not so happy finishing the corner.”
Later he tried long run with his bike but could not generate impressive results. He believes that he needs to push more with his bike.
“And this afternoon I tried a long run on the tyre and my fastest lap came right at the end, so I need to push this tyre much harder,” the substituting rider said.
During the tests carried out, he reached the conclusion that he should trust his tyre more. In the last outing at the test session he pushed more and achieved better results. He thinks that the main idea of achieving better results is to push more and more.
“But it’s like trust thing – I need to trust the tyre more. When I went out in the last outing with the new tyre, I pushed a little harder and trusted the tyre, and it worked. Maybe the idea is to just push more and more,” Rea said.
After improving his lap times of yesterday, he registered his fastest lap, of the test session, at the fourth position with a gap of less than two seconds from the leader Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing who completed his fastest lap in 1 minute and
48.244 seconds.
Rea also tested the new tyre provided by Bridgestone.
Rea originally races in the Superbike World Championship from Ten Kate Honda team. He attains the title of Irish Motorcyclist of the years 2007, 2008 and 2011.
It can be said with certainty that Stoner has beard a huge loss because of his ankle surgery as he was the third worthy contender in the battle of championship.
