Jonathan Roberts clinches Men’s 1650 yard freestyle gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Jonathan Roberts of North Texas Nada clinched gold medal of the Men’s 1650 yard freestyle on final day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
Roberts lived up to the expectations of his supporters in the 1650 yard freestyle event as he went full rampant in the playoff and occupied the crown of the race.
The 17-year-old Roberts faced tough competition from Liam Egan of Crimson Aquatics throughout the race, but with his unrelenting efforts, he managed to escape him over the finishing wall for the title with an effort of 15 minutes and 12.01 seconds.
He was followed by Egan, who stayed only 0.83 seconds slower from him over the finishing end and stepped on the podium for silver medal by clocking a time of 15 minutes and 12.84 seconds.
Egan was chased by Adam Henley of Sandpipers of Neptune, who stayed prominently slower from him over the finishing end but managed to secure third position by producing a time of 15 minutes and 21.36 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Nick Arakelian of Kingfish Aquatic, who was 0.02 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by producing a time of 15 minutes and 21.38 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Ryan Kao of La Mirada Armada, who was only 0.18 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and completed his race in a time of 15 minutes and 21.56 seconds.
Kao was trailed by Joshua Beals of Crimson Aquatics, who was 1.34 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 15 minutes and 22.90 seconds for sixth place.
Beals was traced by Aidan Burns of Santa Clara Swim Club, who stayed half a body length apart and touched the wall for seventh place with an effort of 15 minutes and 23.79 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was gained by Cliffor Goertemiller of Dayton Raiders-O, who was 0.29 seconds apart and posted a time of 15 minutes and 24.08 seconds.
Furthermore, Roberts expressed happiness and collected his medal after the race.
