Jonathan Sanchez and Pablo Sandoval lead San Francisco Giants to 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies
Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval played another outstanding outing as they both provided an early lead to help the San Francisco Giants to a 6-3 victory against division rival the Colorado Rockies at the Coors Field in Denver on Tuesday.
In the second of the three-game series, Posey led the outing hitting a single to left-field providing an early 1-0 lead. Sandoval then took it to 4-0 hammering a huge three-run homer to right-field off the Rockies’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Aubrey Huff again
played a vital role and added insult to injury adding a grand slam in the seventh inning.
The Giants’ starter Jonathan Sanchez took full advantage of the early lead and held the opponents from making any considerable run until the fifth inning. Sanchez, making his third start, did not allow any hit in first four innings. He allowed his first
hit in the fifth inning when the Rockies’ hitter Seth Smith touched a sacrifice fly providing Ty Wigginton a chance to score.
Sanchez tossed six innings, consumed three runs and four walks while getting four strike-outs to earn a 2-1 record with a 3.13 ERA. Closer Brian Wilson pitched a shut-out ninth inning and earned his fifth save of the season. Reliever’s Javier Lopez and Ramon
Ramirez contributed to triumph tossing scoreless innings.
After receiving an early blow, the Rockies’ starter Jimenez made a promising come-back as he did not consume a single hit in his later innings. In these innings, the 27-year-old pitcher remained scoreless and managed six strike-outs for his first start of
the Major League Baseball season.
"He didn't have that 98 mph fastball he had last year," Huff said of Jimenez. "Obviously, coming off the DL he's probably just feeling it out a little bit. Still had some great offspeed stuff tonight. Pablo jumped on him but he pitched well after that. After
that first inning he kind of settled down."
The Rockies’ reliever Jose Morales was having good day before he went for a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Morales finished his spell with two allowed runs and one walk while striking-out three batters. However, Felipe Paulino, Mark Reynolds and closer
Matt Lindstrom threw scoreless innings and got one strike-out each.
The Rockies’ batter Dexter Fowler provided a hope to camp with his RBI double to deep right-field. The Rockies, however, could not avail the opportunity and remained hit-less in later innings.
The Giants are leading the series 2-1 and are hopeful to make their first sweep of the season when they take on the Rockies in third meeting on Wednesday night at the same venue.
