Jonathan Toews Make Surprising Revelations on Playing with Concussion -NHL Update
Jonathan Toews, captain of the Chicago Blackhawks National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, made a startling revelation on Thursday, November 15, 2012, that he was not fully recovered to play during the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In order to continue playing, Toews was semi-cleared from the medical staff but considered it most important to continue playing, especially at a crucial time like near the end of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season. He missed the final two months, but returned
in the playoffs as they were eliminated in the opening round by the raging Phoenix Coyotes.
He might not have known it, but till this last week, Toews was still lingering from concussion symptoms that forced him to undergo treatment at an Atlanta chiropractic neurology facility. Luckily, he seems to be fully recovered now and gives credit to the
lockout to allow him that extra time off to get back to full health.
"I'm feeling really good now," Toews said, talking to the Chicago Tribune. "The one thing about this lockout that I've taken advantage of is dealing with that injury first and foremost. I was in Atlanta to treat things. I'm not saying there were any symptoms
— I felt 100 percent. But every time you get hit in the head there are some lasting things there that maybe you don't notice.”
Toews, being the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks roster, is an extremely crucial part of that squad. He was a leading force which took them to their first Stanley Cup championship after 40 years back in 2010.
"It's always on my mind, especially now since I got that out of the way and I know I'm 100 percent," Toews added. "We'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. We're really getting to that point where enough is enough and if nothing happens then decisions
have to be made.”
The 24-year-old centre player is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and was drafted by Chicago as the third overall back in 2006. He has appeared in 361 games up until now and has a career record of 144 goals scored and 180 assists made for a total
of 324 points.
