Jonathan Trott Cements England’s Dominance as Ponting loses his calm
Jonathan Trott, the emphatic English batsman has cemented his team’s dominance over Australian rivals in the fourth Test match of the Ashes series.
While observing the hosts capitulating for mere 98 on the first day of the match, Trott stayed unbeaten till the second day’s play was declared over and put altogether 141 runs on the board. Besides him, players like Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, and Kevin
Pietersen also contributed well into the total score of the team. They scored 69, 82, and 51 respectively. With an impressive score of 75, Matt Prior also remained unbeaten at the end of the second day’s play.
English batsmen’s effort paid off well and they closed the second day of the match with 444 runs for 5 wickets. With such an emphatic performance, the chances for the visiting team to nail the match and to take the lead by 2-1 have increased significantly.
Ricky Ponting’s frustration over the English batsmen’s performance was observed when he tried to cough up the venom upon both of the umpires after the DRS procedure gave its verdict in favour of Kevin Pietersen over a caught-behind appeal.
Pietersen was just one run away from completing his 50 when the wicketkeeper, Brad Haddin sensed an edge and appealed to the umpire. Aleem Dar, quite sure about what had happened, gave his decision in favour of the batsman to which the wicketkeeper convinced
his team-mates to review the umpire’s not-out decision.
The DRS confirmed the initial verdict given by the umpire, but that only added to the fury of the host captain who went on berating both Dar and Tony Hill, the umpires for the match. An apparently irrational and stubborn approach by the Australian Captain
about the review of the decision went on halting the play for several minutes.
Now, besides the 67,000 eye witnesses, when the world media constantly targeted and aired the way the host captain behaved or rather insulted both of the umpires, it wouldn't have been possible for either of the umpires not to report the incident.
Now when the case is quite proven, the Australian skipper could face a ban of one Test match, or more likely, he can be fined up to one match fee.
Despite the poor performance displayed by team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, major chunk of the local crowd disapproved the act of their skipper. After their team was down for a mere 98 runs, Ponting’s act could only add up to their disappointment from the team.
