Trott, the 31-year-old No. 3 batsman of England, suffered a painful blow on his right hand after being hit by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn’s short ball during his side's six-wicket win over Proteas, at Lord's, London, on Sunday. The right-hander showed obvious signs of discomfort
during a match-winning century stand with Ian Bell for the fourth-wicket before being trapped leg-before wicket, and it was feared that the Cape Province-born English cricketer might have broken bones.
Scans on Trott’s injured hand have revealed that he did not have major fracture. However his complain of persistent pain forced the ECB selectors to call up replacement for the fifth and final ODI against the Proteas.
An http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) update on Monday revealed that the selectors and team’s medical staff will wait 24 hours before deciding on Trott’s fitness for Wednesday’s encounter.
"X-rays of the hand rule out any major fracture, further medical assessment will be required tomorrow," the ECB statement read.
Having scored 142 runs in three innings, Trott is third highest run getter of the five-match NatWest series, just behind teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557 (238).
The ECB selectors have called up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733 as cover for injured Trott for the final ODI.
Trott’s unavailability on Wednesday could also open doors for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 will move up in the order, to accommodate Bairstow in the middle, at No. 5. The Yorkshireman has not played a One
Day International for England since October last year.
England currently lead the five-ODI series 2-1, after the opening game at Cardiff was rained out. The outcome of the final one-dayer will have no bearing on England’s top ODI spot as the Proteas needed to win the series in order to topple the hosts.
