Jonathan Trott’s ton helps England post a massive total
A tremendous century from Jonathan Trott helped England reach a massive total in the sixth One Day International (ODI) of the seven-match series. England amassed 333 runs batting first at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
The toss was won by the English captain Andrew Strauss and he elected to bat first. This was the fifth time out of six matches, in the ongoing ODI series, that Strauss won the toss for his team.
The wicket was absolutely flat and a big score was expected before the start of the game. England’s score in today’s match was their highest ever in ODI cricket against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and this was also the highest score by any team without any six being hit in
the innings.
The start was steady for the team but the wicketkeeper batsman, Matt Prior failed to capitalize on the start he got. Prior was dismissed after just scoring 18 runs off 23 balls and his downfall brought the in-form Trott at the crease.
Both Trott and Strauss played sensibly for England and took their team to 121 in 22.1 overs with an 80-run partnership.
Strauss was out after scoring 63 runs off 69 balls and Kevin Pietersen joined Trott in the middle. Pietersen had started the ODI series with a brilliant half-century, but failed to carry on in that fashion in the other matches of the series.
Today’s match was no different for Pietersen as he got out after getting a good start. The flamboyant middle-order batsman was out after scoring 29 runs off 34 balls.
Ian Bell and Eoin Morgan played good cameos and supported Trott. Bell missed-out on an opportunity to score a half-century and was out after getting 45 quick runs off just 32 balls.
Morgan was out after scoring 21 runs from 15 balls but the continuous fall of wickets didn’t trouble Trott at all. The first-drop player continued to play his strokes with effortless-ease and scored a magnificent century.
He scored a career best 133 runs before getting out in the last over of the innings. It was a very well constructed innings by Trott as he struck eleven 4s in the innings and all the other runs came through quick running between the wickets.
The man-in-form had some cramps after he reached his century and England will be hoping that the injury would not be of a serious nature.
The Australian bowlers were expensive today but Shaun Tait picked up 2 wickets for his team giving away 59 runs in his 10 overs. Apart from him, none of the other bowlers looked to trouble the batsmen.
