Jonathan Viera described the firing of former Valencia boss, Mauricio Pellegrino, as a ‘shame’ and also stated that it is imperative for his club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League
Los Che’s run in the Primera Division this season was full of inconsistencies and disappointments. Their season has not turned out as they expected as they are now far behind their rivals.
It is a fact that led to the firing of their former coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pellegrino, in the beginning of this month.
It was a controversial decision that led many to wonder if the Argentine tactician deserved the axe. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-c18993 Viera is fully aware that the results were not good. Despite all of that, the midfielder thinks Pellegrino didn’t deserve
to lose his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
The Spaniard said the reason the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 boss was let go was because it is always convenient to fire one man than the whole squad.
“The truth is that ultimately the results were not positive. But hey, it is always easier to dismiss the Coach than 25 players. With Pellegrino’s exit we were very sad, it was a shame.”
The 23-year-old then turned his attention to the new coach, Valverde, and thinks that he is a trainer who knows what he is doing.
“Valverde is very practical. He likes us to play good football, with lots of pressure in the attacking area and lots of rhythm in training. I think that’s going to come in handy.”
Finally, Viera commented on his personal experience and achievement in the calendar year of 2012. He couldn’t be happier with how things have turned out for him personally and is grateful that the year ended on a high note.
“I had a very good year, with luck. I leave 2012 with a good taste; everything that has happened to me has been spectacular. I hope 2013 is also a very good year, with good health and no injuries.”
Los Che are currently on the top-half of the table. They are now trying to bridge the gap that exists between them and their rivals for the much coveted fourth spot for the Champions League.
