Jonathan Woodgate suffers relapse of groin injury
Tottenham Hotspurs, after clinching a memorable victory at San Siro over AC Milan during the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16, has suffered a serious setback when 31-year-old centre back Jonathan Woodgate was diagnosed with a groin problem
again.
Woodgate has consistently been suffering groin and hamstring problems for the last few seasons. The problem has deprived the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international of cementing his place in the Spurs starting line-up.
The centre back joined the Spurs setup in the January transfer window of 2008 from another English cub, Middlesbrough. His defensive methods impressed the former Spurs manager. The Englishman got a regular place in the starting XI. At that time, the Spurs’
manager was Juande Ramos.
Ramos was later sacked on 25 October, 2008 for leading Tottenham to their worst-ever start in the Premier League, acquiring just 2 points in their first 8 games. The Spaniard was later replaced by the current Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.
Woodgate, during his three and a half year at Spurs so far, has only managed to make a paltry 65 appearances for the club in all competitions. He also has 3 goals under his belt in all the competitions.
The 31-year-old managed to make the most consistent run of his career in the 2008-09 season before he became the victim of various groin problems. During that season, Woodgate appeared 44 times for the club in all the competitions and also scored 1 goal.
Since then, the English defender has been in the thick of injuries as his growing groin concerns did not allow him to make more than just 3 appearances in the 2009-10 season.

The defender recently made a comeback on 19 January, 2011 in a friendly against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vedran-Corluka-c35947 in the 59th minute during a champion’s league victory over
AC Milan on 15 February, 2011.
He spent about 30 minutes on the field and the things were looking good from both the player and the team’s point of views.
It was revealed after the game that the 31-year-old has again complained about the old injury and after further examination it was confirmed that the unfortunate centre back has got the recurrence of the groin problem.
A statement on their official website says, "http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Woodgate-c19069 has sustained a strain of the left adductor muscle, a scan has confirmed."
The centre back’s progress will now be examined in the days to come as the defender would certainly not like to have another long layoff from the game.
