Reports in France suggest that former Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina is on the verge of making a return to French Ligue 1 after spending nearly 10 years of his football career in Italian Serie A.
The 32-year-old is currently contracted to Italian side Brescia. The Frenchman made only 28 appearances for Leonessa and could not prevent the club from relegation in the 2010/2011 Serie A season. Brescia will now play the next season in Serie B and Zebina
is keen on making a move away from the Stade Mario Rigamonti this summer.
Furthermore, Zebina will become a free agent in a few days and is rumoured to make a return to his native country that he left in the summer of 1996 when he was only 18. Zebina initially started his professional career at Cannes where he made 27 appearances
from 1996 to 1998. Serie A side Cagliari saw the young defender’s talent and signed him up in 1998. After two good campaigns for Cagliari, Zebina was bought by AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 in 2000. The Frenchman won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana in his first season
with the Lupi under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello.
After the departure of Capello to Turin giants Juventus, the Italian tactician signed the former Cannes man on a free transfer. However, the Paris-born defender failed to settle at Juventus initially and following Juventus’ relegation to the Serie B after
the 2006 Calciopoli Scandal, remained with the club and helped La Vecchia Signora to promotion back to the Serie A. However, Zebina could not hold a regular spot in the starting XI and was released by the club along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Trezeguet-c10623
last summer.
Since then, Zebina has been with Brescia where injuries plagued his first season which was an unsuccessful one for him and the club. However, the Frenchman has a lot of experience that is reportedly valued a lot at Nice and Saint-Etienne who are looking
to add more strength to their respective defences. A move to the Ligue 1 could be a good one for a player who is now in the final years of his career as a footballer.
