Jones still uncertain for Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Julio Jones’ status for the club’s game on Saturday 16 October is still uncertain. The star wide-out broke his hand during the Crimson Tide’s loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks over the weekend and had surgery to insert
a metal plate and screws on 10 October.
Jones was cleared just in time to play in the game against the Gamecocks, after struggling with a muscle injury for the majority of last week. Nevertheless, it appeared as though the youngster was in full health, as he registered a season high, bringing
in eight catches for 118 yards, before he was forced to leave the game because of his injury.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban said that Jones had practiced on Wednesday 13 October, but will need further evaluation to determine whether or not he will be ready for their upcoming game against the Mississippi Rebels. Saban elaborated, saying that if Jones
is cleared to play on Saturday 16 October his playing time is likely to be reduced.
In addition, right tackle D.J. Fluker will not be able to play against the Rebels, as he suffered a pulled groin and has not been cleared to play.
Alabama suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday 9 October, losing 35-21 to the Gamecocks. The loss marked the first time a number one ranked team had lost by two touchdowns. The defeat hurt Alabama in the rankings as they fell from first to eighth.
The Tide should have no trouble against a less skilled Mississippi side. However, the Rebels have looked strong of late, taking their last two games against Fresno State and Kentucky.
Jones has had a stellar season for Alabama, tallying 32 receptions for a total of 440 yards and three touchdowns.
