Manchester United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 at the European Championships this summer, while shrugging off comparisons between him and some of the world’s greatest players ever.
When Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson splurged an enormous amount of cash for Blackburn’s Phil Jones last year, it certainly raised a lot of eyebrows.
However all of that is now in the past, as Jones has established himself as one of the brightest young talents in the game with a series of scintillating outings for the Red Devils.
Although he initially started his United career as a centre-back, owing to his versatility, he has been placed in a variety of roles, all of whom he has taken in his stride.
From a central midfielder to a right-back, the youngster has been all over the pitch at Old Trafford, although full-back seems to be the area where he has really flourished.
His England debut was not far away given his performances and after featuring against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montenegro-c2959, he has increased his chances of playing in this summer’s European championships.
However due to the change of management within the Three Lions, his spot could be put in jeopardy and in order to reiterate his readiness, Jones spoke to the media about how his talents could come in handy in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983.
“I can play in a variety of positions and I don’t think I have a set position yet. That is something that, come the start of next season or in the near future, I am going to have to do.
"I need to hold down a regular place in a regular position. Ideally that would be centre back. I have always said that from Day 1. I have always seen myself as a centre back. Hopefully whoever takes charge sees that as well.”
"It’s nice to hear comments like that, but you have to make sure it doesn’t affect you and go to your head. It’s the old cliché: you keep your feet on the ground and stick to doing what got you there in the first place,” he said.
England kick-off their campaign in June, but are going to be without the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, who was red-carded in the very same game Jones made his debut in.
