The 22-year-old was drafted into the 13-men squad, following an injury to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 during the Championship match against Kent.
Bairstow himself has been in fine touch with the bat in the current county season, where he has scored two centuries, one against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 – a fine 182- run knock under difficult conditions. His first-class record is also impressive – amassing 3296 runs at 46.42, with a double century to his name.
His stature has risen in recent times, which saw him make his international ODI debut last year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at UAE, which included a pivotal knock of 60 in the second game.
With him considered ahead of some of the other promising players, including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 testing for batsman, Bresnan, his county mate, has backed the youngster to make a name for himself in the longer version as well.
"I think he'll do well," said Bresnan. "He seems to relish the big occasion, and there's none bigger than your Test debut really." "He's started well this summer as well. I watched the 180 odd (for Yorkshire) at Scarborough. That was a phenomenal knock on a difficult pitch."
The Poms will lock horns with the touring Windies from May 17th, and Bresnan knows that all eyes will be on Bairstow, but is expecting the youngster to deliver.
"The big occasion brings out the best in him, and that's what the cameras will be watching. They won't be watching Jonny as a bloke; they'll be watching him as a cricketer. From what I've seen of him, he's a brilliant talent - one to watch, definitely," added Bresnan.
