Jonny Bairstow’s inclusion excites http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 – Cricket News Update
England’s wicket-keeper in Tests, Matt Prior, is excited with the prospect of having Jonny Bairstow, the young and aspiring cricketer from Yorkshire, in the same playing XI as him.
Bairstow is on verge of making his debut against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the first Test match, at Lord’s, starting from Thursday, May 17, 2012.
Bairstow’s batting in the warm-up match against the West Indies inspired everyone, and there are chances that the 22-year-old will play in the Lord’s Test as a specialist batsman.
Hoping to see the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 lad play alongside him, Prior said, “It's always exciting when a player like Jonny comes through into the squad, he's settled in very well. It's nice to form a relationship with
another keeper because ultimately he's the only other bloke in the room that knows what it's like to be a keeper.”
Bairstow's inclusion means that Prior will have to bat at number seven, as opposed to number six, like on the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. However, the wicket-keeper batsman is happy to go down the pecking order,
if it is for the team’s cause.
Prior http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Richard-Caddick-c44567 not fear any competition from Bairstow at the moment, as he has cemented his place in England’s Test team. However, the wicket-keeper admitted that he would feel a bit threatened for his place
if the youngster goes on to score a double century while he gets out without adding any run to his tally.
“If he smashes a double hundred and I get nought he'll probably become a rival pretty quickly. He's a wicketkeeper, but there are a number of wicketkeepers around the country and there always has been. Whether
they're in the team or playing county cricket I know that I have to perform well to keep my place,” the 30-year-old said.
Prior made a century on his Test debut. The wicket-keeper batsman accomplished this feat against the West Indies at the Lord’s in 2007 and has since gone on to represent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 52 Test matches, scoring
2758 runs at an impressive average of 43.09.
Prior has scored six centuries in Test matches and three of these have come at the Lord’s cricket stadium. The wicket-keeper batsman would want to build on the record and score another ton at the home of
cricket.
