Jonny Lomax pays tribute to Saints coach Royce Simmons - Rugby League
While talking to BBC reporters, on December 14, Jonny Lomax, Saint Helens’ scrum-half paid homage to Saint’s coach, Royce Simmons, for believing in his skills during the last season when the franchise featured in their sixth successive
Grand Final.
The scrum-half gained recognition with the half-back, Lee Gaskell, for his on-field brilliance during last season with Helens. While expressing his gratitude to Simmons, Lomax said, "In my first game at half-back against Leeds,
I was untried and untested and people were a bit worried. He showed the faith in me and Lee Gaskell throughout the season and we're both massively grateful for it."
Following a successful year at the club, where the 21-year-old proved his mettle to Saints, the franchise offered to extend his stay at the club for four more years, whereas he already had two years remaining on his running contract.
The player made a total of 29 appearances and ran in nine tries during his last term with Saints.
Lomax was really happy to get his stay at his home-town club extended. He also shared that he had tergeted an extension even though he had two remaining years with the club.
Also, the player talked about the excitement within the team for their new stadium, Langtree Park, where the team is going to undergo their future trainings.
Lomax’s impressive performance during the Super League season had a very harsh end because the Saints’ key player sustained a severe ankle injury. In lieu of his torn ankle ligaments, the player’s otherwise expected inclusion on
the English side for the Gillette Four Nations was written off.
As his replacement, the Rhinos’ stand-off, Danny McGuire, made it into the English squad and was the eighth call-ups from Leeds Rhinos.
England’s performance during Four Nations 2011 was lauded abundantly and they were this year’s finalists along with the series favourites, Australians.
