Jonny Marray ready to rock the competitive tennis in 2013 – Tennis News
Right-hander British doubles contestant, Jonny Marray, announced an early retirement a year ago but he was forced to re-make the decision after his remarkable season at the Wimbledon with Freddie Nielsen. Currently, he is gearing
himself up for next season and returns to come back with a more successful campaign than before.
In an interview, Marray told the media, “Going on the programme was a fantastic experience. It was obviously the first time I've had an opportunity to go to it. It was good to rub shoulders with all the other athletes. So many
people had great years. I was actually over in the States during the Olympics, so I missed all the excitement back home. Going to Sports Personality of the Year was a good chance to catch up with everything that went on during the Games. I think it was the
first time I had gone into Wimbledon feeling that good, even though leading up.”
In the start of the season, he suffered from the greatest dilemma of terminating his tennis career, as he was only able to bag home $48,311 in prize money, which eventually brought his doubles partnership with Jamie Delgado in
critical condition.
The 31-year-old British had always struggled hard in his career, as he was unable to make sufficient cash to sustain a decent living. He was a part of the lowest ranked duo in the Australian Open 2012 and was unable to proceed
beyond the first round. He was very resolute about the departure but after a discussion session with his coach, Richard de Souza, he was forced to pair up with a new partner and he was able to performance well ever since then.
The pair achieved their greatest victory over the American champions Mike and Bob Bryan and they become a strong team to rally past any challenger. The British professional successfully made it to the semi-finals of the ATP World
Tour Finals at the indoor hard courts of London this year. Marray attaches great importance to the sport and he unquestionably considers it the most amazing experience. Currently, he is busy in the practise session for the Australian Open 2013 and will surely
improve his world rankings.
