Jonny Wilkinson asks his team-mates to stay disciplined in remaining matches of RWC - Rugby News
Jonny Wilkinson, the inside-centre for England, has asked his team-mates to work on their discipline during the forthcoming matches of Rugby World Cup 2011. He warned his side to be careful about the number of penalties they are conceding. Earlier, Martin
Johnson, the manager of the English team, slammed his side for their poor tackling despite a comprehensive victory over Georgia on September 18. England trounced the Georgian side by a huge difference of 41-10 but still earned the wrath of their boss due to
serious irregularities both in the attack and back row.
England was looked ordinary while playing against the meagre side from Georgia. They missed seven tackles in the match but were lucky not to concede too many points to the rusty Georgian team. They also provided numerous chances to their rivals to score
six penalties goals. However by the virtue of good luck they conceded just one goal. If they had been facing a better side, the same number of miss handlings could have produced a debacle for them.
Furthermore, their defenders were beaten as many as on 23 times in the match. Talking to journalists about their poor show in the field, Wilkinson admitted that such a huge number of mistakes can play havoc to the Rugby World Cup chances of any side.
He added that, “Mistakes in a World Cup are going to cost you. They could have cost us very badly in the first half against Georgia. Thankfully for us, a few (of their penalty) kicks went wide and we were able to go into half-time in a good position - but
who knows what will happen next time?.”
He also stated that, “We just can't afford to do it. That's why there is an urgency about the meetings, as sooner or later it will be something we can't come back from.” England is currently placed on top of the tables in the Pool B with two victories. They
will face Romania in their next encounter of Rugby World Cup on September 24.
