Joo Ven rises as champion in the Dutch Junior Open – Badminton news
The young Malaysian shuttler Soong Joo Ven registered his presence at international level by sealing the boys’ singles trophy at the Dutch Junior Open, on March 4.
The Selangor Open’s division two champion Joo Ven outclassed his compatriot Soo Teck Zhi at the judgment day and seized the crown with a convincing straight-set victory.
The final encounter was a one-sided contest as Joo Ven took just 26 minutes to push his rival into dark and stole the limelight with score board flashing final score of 21-16 and 21-14.
The young champion set the foundation by clinching the first match point straight away. He did not give his compatriot rival even a single chance to respond his swift attack. Despite of an exhausting 50-minute semi-final few hours earlier, he proved himself
super fit as there were no signs of fatigue in the final.
Joo Ven was even more perfect when he wrapped the show in second set by hammering the opponent finalist Soo Teck Zhi with conclusive score 21-14 on the board.
This is Joo Ven’s first international title and he has struck the iron right at the moment when it’s hot as Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is working on 4-year- programme to nurture young talent for the future and BAM is forming a special squad
also.
Earlier, he earned the right to be in the final by nailing Kalle Koljonen of Finland in semi-final on the same day. Joo Ven finished the epic tussle with 18-21, 21, 18 and 21-12 score in his favour.
The Malaysian lad had to sweat rally hard to escort his country to glory. Joo Ven showed a strong physical and mental character after losing first set against his opponent Kalle Koljonen. He stormed back and blew away the Finnish shuttler in final two sets.
Joo Ven belongs to the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and he has made his entry to main stream badminton circle after winning the Division two Selangor Open title last week before this recent honour of the Dutch Junior Open.
Few more victories and he will be one of the strong contenders to replace World Number 1 Lee Chong Wei who is likely to say good-bye to the arena in next couple of years.
