Joonas Granberg admits to be nervous, heading for the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters
Heading into this week’s Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, Joonas Granberg admitted that he felt nervous, thinking about the successful defense of the title that he won last year.
The tournament will officially begin on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.
The 25-year-old is expecting a strong challenge from some of the big names participating in the event this year.
While talking to the reporters, he explained his game-plan by saying that he will not try something new that can create problems for him, in the end.
In fact, he will try to play his natural game, which earned him a victory last year, after posting a course record 10-under par 62 in the opening round.
"I have to keep things simple and not try anything special. Somehow I don't feel very relaxed and that's my problem. I need to calm myself down," Granberg said, according to a press release from the Asian Tour.
He also explained how he fired an impressive round last year. He told that he was feeling sleepy, standing on the first tee on the first day because of the jetlag.
However, he felt refreshed when he saw the ball turning in for an eagle on the first hole, followed by a birdie on the second.
During the press conference, Granberg was accompanied by Mardan Mamat of Singapore, who expressed his pleasure on being a part of the Asian Tour event, even at the age of 45
"I'm very fortunate. But I still want to get better every day. That's the key to my success of playing," said the three-time Asian Tour winner.
Panuphol Pittayarat, in the meantime, had a 3D biomechanical motion analysis last week, in order to make some improvements in his swing technique.
While talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he told that the analysis showed several mistakes that he used to make in the past.
Therefore, he amended his overall swing pattern and confident to apply the new technique in Malaysia this week.
"I feel much better after doing the biomechanical analysis because I know what I'm doing now and what I did wrong before," he said.
