Joost Luiten, Graeme Storm on top of leaderboard in round one in Morocco: Live Leaderboard
Dutchman Joost Luiten is on a rampage in the opening round of the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco and has now clinched early lead in the star-studded event through the opening nine hole.
Winner of the Iskander Johor Open last year, Luiten is eager to bag his second European Tour title in the North African country, playing the revered Golf du Palais Royal of the Royal Palace of Agadir.
Luiten pulled in three consecutive birdies on the opening holes on the back nine and went over to card two more on the 14th and 15th. He carded another on the 17th but fell for a bogey on the 18th before making
the turn.
Luiten is exhibiting splendid form and is likely to clinch lead in the opening round of the latest European Tour title.
Irishman Damien McGrane started off his round with stunning birdies on the back nine, carding no fewer than four brides.
He opened up his bid in the event with a glistening eagle on the par-five, 10th, setting the pace of his round early in the morning. He fell for two bogeys on the back nine to fall back.
McGrane made the turn to a relatively calm front nine and remained birdie-less till the opening three holes.
He fell for another bogey at par-four, 4th before he pulled in another two birdies to make up for the loss. He is still playing for the remaining three holes on the front nine.
Englishman Graeme Storm was probably the biggest hitter of the day, carding an eye-popping two eagles on the back nine.
He opened his round with an eagle at par-five, 10th on the Robert Trent Snr. Layout and lost the early points with two bogeys. He pulled in another birdie and yet another eagle at par-five, 17th.
Storm made the turn to fall for another dreadful bogey at par-third, 2nd and went on another rampage carding four consecutive birdies. He is still playing for the remaining three holes on the front nine.
Defending champion David Horsey was doing well in the morning, pulling in three birdies on the back nine, without dropping a shot, until he fell for a disastrous double-bogey six on the front nine. He is one-under for the moment.
