Joost Luiten takes home his second European Tour title at the Lyoness Open – Golf News
Joost Luiten carded a one-under par 71, in the final round of the Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity, which was enough to secure a two-stroke victory over Thomas Björn, on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
The tournament was being staged at the Diamond Country Club in Austria and featured some of the big names on the European Tour.
The Dutch star started his final round campaign with a three-stroke cushion, which reduced to one stroke right after he finished his first hole of the day - he three-putted for a bogey on the first hole, while his playing partner
Jorge Campillo drained a birdie putt.
He then bounced back strongly with a birdie on the very next hole that he played. However, his lead remained to just one stroke, as Romain Wattel of France recorded his fourth birdie of the day on the sixth hole.
Meanwhile, when Wattel struggled on the ninth hole for a bogey, Luiten responded with a birdie on the seventh hole, which allowed him to take a three-stroke lead again.
When Luiten reached the 14th tee, the game was suspended due to insufficient light. The play resumed after one hour delay, and the 27-year-old star added another birdie to his scorecard on the 16th hole to further strengthen his
position on the leaderboard.
"It's been a great week so I am really, really happy," Luiten said. "It was a long day, I started off with a bogey but I hit the ball nicely so I just wanted to focus on that, hit the greens, two-putt and make the others chase
me.”

"Unfortunately I made a few mistakes on the greens and didn't make a lot of putts, but in the end I was three clear after my birdie on 16 and that gave me a little bit of air. It's always nice to finish par, par and hold the trophy,” he added.
At the end of the day, he comfortably managed to add the second European Tour title to tally, having won the Iskandar Johor Open in 2011- the Iskandar Johor Open was co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour.
