Jordan Burgess named as Gatorade Player of the Year – Volleyball news
The Gatorade Player of the Year program recently recognised Tampa, Florida native Jordan Burgess as the Player of the Year in the female volleyball category.
This is an annual tradition of the Gatorade Company to choose one outstanding player for this particular award. This year, Burgess got lucky and emerged as the 2011-12 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year.
The selection process was administered by ESPN High School magazine and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team. They worked with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board, in order to determine the state winners in different sports such
as volleyball, football, basketball, softball etc.
The Senior Director of USA Volleyball Tom Pingel expressed delight that Burgess got hold of the honour and said, “USA Volleyball wishes to congratulate Jordan on earning such a prestigious award after a tremendous high school season and career. She continues
a long line of successful USA Volleyball High Performance athletes who have been recognized by Gatorade and many of gone on to future success at the college and international level.”
Jordan Burgess is the senior outside hitter at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. She is a two-time member of the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team, who enjoyed huge spotlight in the past two summers. She proved her endeavours and did great job
at different national and international events. Burgess was part of the American youth national team, which finished ninth at the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship in Turkey.
Likewise in 2010 season, she helped the U.S. team to claim the gold medal at the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship, when the Team USA also qualified for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games and the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship.
Burgess was more than happy to receive the Gatorade award. Previously, beach volleyball star April Ross, national team player Logan Tom, and beach volleyball queen Kerri Walsh earned the honour of being named as Gatorade Player of the Year. However, Burgess
is the first player from Florida to receive this award. She worked hard and it finally paid off.
