Jordan Farmar knocks down a game winning 3 to help New Jersey Nets hold Los Angeles Clippers 100-99: NBA
After a heartbreak against the Minnesota Timberwolves last night, the Los Angeles Clippers suffered yet another shocker at the hands of New Jersey Nets on Wednesday night. The script was however reversed this time as Chris Paul made two free throws in the clutch and the Clippers immediately double teamed Deron Williams on the other end.
Williams flew the ball to Jordan Farmar, who with just 0.2 seconds left on the clock, canned a three pointer to give Nets a 100-99 win. Nets head coach Avery Johnson, who saw his team receive a mauling last night against the Hear, was one happy man after the win;
"What a great on-time, on-target pass, first of all, good spacing by the rest of the guys on the floor. And Jordan made probably the biggest shot this year for us."
Farmar finished with 16 points off the bench. Deron Williams had 21 points, 10 assist and 6 rebounds, rookie Marshon Brooks chipped in with 19 on an 8-of-13 shooting including three from distance while Kris Humphries (12-11) and Shelden Williams (15-10) had points-rebounds double-doubles. Anthony Morrow also finished with 14 points for the Nets, who claimed their first home win in eight attempts.
The Clippers received a monstrous night from Blake Griffin. The second year power forward erupted with 28 points and 17 rebounds to lead the way. Chris Paul had 22 points, 10 assists and 5 steals while Randy Foye contributed for the Clippers, who overcame an 18 point deficit midway through the third to make a game out of it.
In a fast paced first quarter, the teams were tied at 21 before Farmar made two three pointers give the Nets a 27-22 head start. The Nets started the second frame on a 9-2 run and never allowed the Clippers within six points, going into the halftime with a 57-45 lead.
Williams scored the first 11 Nets points in the third for a 68-52 advantage as the Clippers failed to muster a response. The scores reached 78-62 going into the final two minutes of third when Eric Bledsoe made a triple to start a 9-0 run which put the Clips at 71-78. Farmar however capped the quarter with a layup to make it 80-71.
The Nets put the Clippers at bay in the first four minutes of the last frame, but then went cold allowing the visitors to mount a comeback. Foye connected on two from distance and Paul made a layup in a 8-0 run that tied the scores at 88.
New Jersey managed to regain the lead though and were leading by 98-95 before Foye made a three point play to tie it again. Morrow missed a three on the next possession and Paul apparently took the Clips across the line. However it was not be as Farmar came good.
